Advocacy Trainer Co-ordinator

Do you want to make an impact on mental health services? CoolTan Arts, a charity set up by people with mental distress in 1996 are looking for a very special person with excellent training and advocacy expertise, to deliver our new Advocacy Training program. We aim to promote positive mental health/well being, bringing about a change in how participants perceive themselves, enabling people to gain greater focus and to re-establish their relationship with society. We achieve this through quality arts education, well-being and support services. This project aims to provide advocacy skills training for people who experience mental distress who have had experiences of not being listened, so that they can have a voice in everyday situations. Administration Reception Officer

CoolTan Arts is a charity set up by people with mental distress in 1996, with a focus on activity and participation we are looking for an experienced administrator and receptionist. The successful applicant will be a self-motivated with an abundance of creative ideas to ensure the office and reception runs smoothly. The applicant must demonstrate an ability to work unsupervised, use their own initiative and communicate appropriately with a diverse range of people. You will need to be a good team player. A sense of humour is essential, as is an understanding of the vital relationship of the arts to mental health. Read More

***CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle - Summer Solstice***

Midnight walk from Tate Modern to Maudsley Hospital - from the Madhouse to Modern Day Psychiatric Hospital. Explore the link between the history and heritage of Southwark and mental well being, from Dickens to Shakespeare, Dr 'lexicon' Johnson, Henry Maudsley, Chaucer and many more. Join us as we delve into the nocturnal experience of the Borough of Southwark and tell `The story of London’s past, present and future through walking and filming. Date: Saturday 20 June Time: 12 midnight Starting from: Tate Modern, SE1 9TG (meet at the main entrance of Holland Street) Finish:The Maudsely Hospital, Denmark Hill , SE5 9TG www.cooltanarts.org.uk The Largactyl Shuffle “The CoolTan Way” is a guided cultural arts walk designed to encourage mental and physical well-being through art, history, humour and exercise as well as de-stigmatising mental health. Our participants (people experiencing or recovering from mental distress) are central to this project, as organisers, tour guides, artists, or walkers dramatically enhancing their quality of life, contributing to reducing relapse and assisting in their search for support and recovery. It is a 5 Mile walk - allow 3-4 hours. Please feel free to bring sandwiches. The walk is free but a voluntary contribution will be appreciated; all money donated goes towards the work of the Charity and to keep the Largactyl Shuffle shuffling along. Walkers do not have to complete the whole walk and can leave the walk at anytime and or join along the way. A volunteer at CoolTan Arts will lead this walk. TBA Walkers meet at 12midnight.

Mad Hatter Tea Party

***Mad Hatters Tea party and Open day*** Heritage Lottery Fund, celebrating history of London Open to all! Tea, coffee and cakes - design your own Alice in wonderland accessory, learn about our special project CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle – history and heritage of Southwark – and the summer solstice midnight walk on Saturday 20th June. Design a t-shirt to wear on the midnight walk, take part in our taster workshops, join in discussions about the shuffle and be filmed, an opportunity to view our current exhibition “The history of posters and promotion of CoolTan Arts”. www.cooltanarts.org.uk
