Mayor Boris Johnson’s ‘The Story of London’ Festival: Heritage Lottery Fund awards CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle
From the Madhouse to Modern Psychiatric Hospital
CoolTan Arts is one of 24 organisations to be awarded money from the Heritage Lottery Fund to enable them to take part in Mayor Boris Johnson’s ‘The Story of London’ Festival.
With this funding CoolTan Arts will make a film about CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle Summer Solstice Midnight walk, a guided geo-physical walk through Southwark hearing the voices of history from the Madhouse to Modern Psychiatric Hospital. This unique guided walk begins at Tate Modern midnight on 20 June 2009, ending at dawn at the Maudsley Hospital on 21 June 2009.
As part of ‘The Story of London’ Festival CoolTan Arts will also organise a Mad Hatters Tea Party open to all members of the public on 13 June 2009 1pm - 4pm at CoolTan Arts Independent Gallery, Unit B 237 Walworth Road, London SE17 1RL.
Make a t-shirt to wear on the midnight walk, participate at taster workshops, contribute to a pod cast, and join discussions about CoolTan Arts Largactyl Shuffle, history and heritage of Southwark, view CoolTan Arts’ exhibition “The history of posters and promotion of CoolTan Arts”.
We will film both the Mad Hatters Tea Party and the Summer Solstice Midnight Walk.
Bettie Morton, Special Projects Manager at CoolTan Arts: “I am delighted that we are part of ‘The Story of London’ Festival. The Summer Midnight walk is an experience not to be missed.”
